Program Overview

Today, Python is the go-to software for analysts to recognize and categorize data in an effective way. With the help of an exploratory data analysis, one can profile the data, visualize results, and deduce observations that shape the next steps in a business venture. This course will enable you to solve simple programming assignments in Python and get comfortable using high-level programming language to manage the data generated by your business. Designed for participants without prior programming experience, this course aims to enable participants to perform basic programming tasks confidently. It is useful for non-programmers as well, who wish to use Python for data analysis/data science applications.

Course/Program Objectives

• To introduce computer programming through immersive practice of coding in a high-level language
• To familiarize participants with basic control flow elements
• To introduce some basic data structures
• To enable participants to perform basic string operations

• Basic programming concepts: Variables, Data types, Operators Control
• Flow: Conditional statements, Loops
• Data Structures: Lists, Dictionaries
• String operations
• Functions: Parameters, Return values

Program Pedagogy

The program will primarily consist of instructor-led exercises that will help participants become comfortable with the logic of programming.

Ideal Participant Profile

Participants who desire a hands-on introduction to the logic of computer programming are welcome. No prior experience is necessary.

Faculty Profile

Prof. Kaushik Gopalan

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, University of Central Florida

Prof. Kaushik Gopalan joined FLAME University in 2020, and has taught varied Math and Computer Science courses, including a very well-received course on introductory Python.

Prior to joining FLAME, he served as a scientist at the Space Applications Centre – ISRO at Ahmedabad from 2011-2020. He was a Researcher with the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center, University of Maryland, College Park from 2008-2011.

Prof. Kaushik’s research has involved applying statistical analysis and methods to solve a variety of problems in the field of Satellite Remote Sensing, with a focus on the retrieval of geophysical parameters from satellite data.

Cancellation

In the unforeseen event of Program Cancellation by the Centre, participants will be refunded the entire amount of Program Fees. If the cancellation is requested by the participant then the Program Fee will be withheld as credit for the next schedule of the same program or an alternative program that the candidate opts for.
